Corona Cares recently supported the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial, which is located at a former strip mine near the town of Shanksville, in western Pennsylvania. This is where United Air- lines Flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001 after a struggle between passengers and hijackers. The 40 memorial groves, each contain 40 trees. Sug- ar maple, white oak and elm trees were planted in 2012, radiating toward the center of the Field of Honor. Corona has been making garden, landscape and agricultural tools since the 1920's, helping enthusi- asts and professionals care for their environments. In keeping with the tradition of helping others, it devel- oped the Corona Cares program in 2008 to demon- strate its commitment to making a difference in the world, one person and one tool at a time. Corona Cares supports those organizations by do- nating the tools they need to maintain gardens and landscapes throughout the country. Each month, Corona grants up to two organizations in need, the tools they need for their project to succeed. Since it began Corona Cares, the company has supported more than 150 schools, and community support and industry organizations by donating in excess of $100,000 in tools. The first ever Memorial Grove tree pruning event occurred on May 2 as a result of donation of staff time and equipment provided by the Friends of Flight 93. The Davey Tree Expert Company also enlisted the support of Corona Cares. The goal was to improve the appearance of the trees, while greatly increasing the health and longevity of this living tribute. The volunteers' efforts helped ensure a positive permanent memorial within the 2,200-acre National Park. Corona Cares considered it an honor and priv- ilege to support an organization dedicated to hon- oring the memory of the heroes of Flight 93. More than 284,000 visitors toured the Memorial in 2014 and visitation at the site is expected to increase when the Visitor and Learning Centers open later this year. Corona tools were born in the orange groves of California in the 1920s. Since then, generations of agriculturists, gardeners, landscapers, arborists and construction professionals have turned to Corona for innovative performance tools.
