40 LC DBM I n f o r m a t i o n R e q u e s t # 4 2 0 Although drought conditions, and lawn-watering restrictions, capture headlines, the latest drought monitor indicated that almost two-thirds of the con- tiguous U.S. is experiencing no drought at all, so here are some perspective-shifting updates. A team of Penn State researchers recently discovered that the cause of an emerging turfgrass disease known as thatch collapse is Sphaerobolus stellatus, better known as artillery or shotgun fungus. Common in bark mulch but previously not seen in grass, it decomposes lignin in thatch. There is no known treatment to eliminate it but this research is seen as the frst step towards doing so. Continuing until Aug. 31, Dow AgroSciences' Power of MORE™ rebate program lets customers earn cash back when they purchase any of the more than 60 eligible products including many for turf. Based on the total rebate amount earned, customers can also get bonus rebates. The USDA decided that Scotts Miracle- Gro's genetically altered tall fescue, which was developed to grow thicker and darker green, does not require an environmental re- view, clearing the way for its cultivation. To get a lawn that looks like a baseball feld, Kevin Asay, the Salt Lake Bees assistant head groundskeeper, stressed to the Deseret News the importance of applying a wetting agent once a month. Earthway Prod- ucts Inc., the man- ufacturers of the EV-N-SPRED® and Flex-Select® line of spreaders, has purchased the PSB Spreader Division of White Castle, makers of Prizelawn spreaders, and will continue to produce and market them through the Prizelawn dealer network. The 2015-16 edition of Cornell University's Guide for Commercial Turfgrass Manage- ment was just re- leased, offering the latest information on topics such as pest management and landscape maintenance for sod producers, landscapers, and turfgrass managers, especially in New York. http://store.cornell.edu/c-875-pmep-guidelines.aspx A r m t Go Green!
