28 LC DBM I n f o r m a t i o n R e q u e s t # 4 7 2 TEXAS IN SHOWTIME The 2014 Nursery/Landscape EXPO, produced by the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, takes place in San Antonio on August 14-16. Here are some facts and fgures about the show and the TNLA. The Texas Nurserymen's organization formed in 1900 and merged with the South- western Association of Nurserymen in 1918. The Texas Association of Landscape Contractors was founded by a group of Dallas contractors in 1964. TNLA was formed in 1999 when the Texas Association of Nurserymen merged with the Texas Association of Landscape Contractors. The Nursery/Landscape EXPO draws more than 6,500 attendees and exhibi- tors annually. This year more than 1,000 exhibitor booths set up shop. Over 80% of the attendees registered are mid- to upper- level managers playing a major role in company purchases. This is the 60th time that EXPO has been bringing the Southwest's landscape industry together. In 1992, a successful 26-year-old scholarship pro- gram was expanded to become the TNLA Educa- tion & Research Foundation, which awards funds to horticulture/landscape students for their continued education, and also grants money for research in horticulture/landscape areas of interest in Texas. http://tnlaonline.org/services/tnla_er TNLA Education & Re- search Foundation is a founding member of the Texas Water Smart Coalition, which edu - cates consumers and businesses on conserv- ing Texas water so that water restrictions that could cripple the land- scape industry can be avoided. http://tnlaonline.org/ about_us/texas_wa- ter_smart_initiative "The Best of Texas Landscape Guide" con- tains a wide range of advice on selecting, planting and maintaining over 300 plants, shrubs, trees and more that perform best in Texas.
