Outdoor cooking also continues to grow in popularity, as homeowners customize outdoor kitchens with indoor conveniences. The 2014 Garden Trends report says consumers are looking for outdoor living additions that help them extend the season, from fire features and outdoor kitchens to vegetable and floral gardens. "Homeowners are using their outdoor living spaces in so many different ways," said Fernanda Pedroso, a consumer research expert for Belgard Hardscapes. "Outdoor spaces in 2014 will be thought- fully designed, but influenced by contemporary design with modern conveniences." The worldwide gardening and outdoor living market is expected to increase by about 3.5 percent annually through 2016. In North America, where the market has been flat for the past four years, an- nual growth is expected at one percent over four years. 048-059 MP.indd 51 5/23/14 4:11 PM
