PGMS recognized Villanova University in Villa- nova, Penn. and Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas with Grand Awards in the Society's 2018 Green Star Awards competi- tion. The award was given to Villanova Uni- versity in the Urban University Grounds cat- egory for exceptional grounds maintenance, and Tarleton State University received its award in the University and College Grounds category for exceptional grounds mainte- nance. The winners were honored during the Society's 2018 Awards Dinner held Oct. 18 in conjunction with the School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO in Louisville, KY, Oct. 15-19. PGMS (continued) STMA is a non-profit, professional association for the men and women who manage outdoor sports fields worldwide. Since 1981, the association has provided education and prac - tical knowledge in the art and science of sports field manage- ment. The single goal of the more than 2,600 members is to manage sports field playing surfaces to the safest level possible. Sports Turf Managers Association Above A major highlight was the 29th Annual STMA Confer- ence and Exhibition, held in Ft. Worth on Jan. 16-19. The con- ference drew record participation. More than 200 exhibitors and 1,200 attendees from 14 countries participated in the four-day event. A "Seminar on Wheels Tour" at professional, collegiate and youth sports complexes in Dallas-Fort Worth complemented nearly 50 education sessions, sports turf exhibits and networking with environmental science leaders. Left The association and Minor League Baseball awarded the 2018 'Sports Turf Managers of the Year' sponsored by STMA and John Deere. This year's honorees continuously demonstrate the hard work and passion needed to provide attractive and safe playing fields at all levels. Three of the four honorees are repeat winners showing their endless dedication to the sports turf management industry. They are: • Triple-A – Matt Parrott, Charlotte Knights (Char- lotte, N.C.) • Double-A – Brock Phipps, Springfield Cardinals (Springfield, Mo.) • Single-A – Stephen Watson, Down East Wood Ducks (Kinston, N.C.) Short Season or Rookie – Ray Sayre, Gulf Coast Phil- lies (Clearwater, Fla. Matt Parrott Brock Phipps Above The prestigious Founders Awards are presented for sig- nificant contributions to the profession. Award winners include: • Dick Ericson Award: Paul Burgess, CSFM, Real Madrid, Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid, Spain • George Toma Award: Dan Bergstrom, CSFM, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, Texas • William H.
