24 LC DBM 2018 Association Wrap-Up National Hispanic Landscape Alliance (continued) Left In March and May, the NHLA facilitated Kubota's inter- est in supporting Pesticide Applicator test prep courses taught in Spanish, by establishing a collaboration with the University of Florida Extension Service. Classes were held in West Palm Beach and Fort Myers attracting Hispanic landscape contrac- tors from throughout the state. In addition to sponsoring the sessions, Kubota funded radio advertising and a direct mail campaign conducted through the NHLA. Above During their visit to Washington, D.C. this summer, NHLA leadership met with Senators and Senate staff on Capitol Hill to discuss industry concerns with the H-2B visa program. NHLA leaders representing numer- ous states voiced support for common sense public policy to remove uncertainty around the H2B visa program, and highlighted the program's critical role in facilitating the stabil- ity and growth of reputable companies in the landscape industry. During the meetings, members of the NHLA strongly argued for the importance of incentives and rewards for both US employers and foreign workers who follow the law, and explained the many benefits of a predictable supply of seasonal workers particularly in a growing economy with a tightening labor supply. Above This past August, the NHLA hosted an enhanced Train the Trainer in Chicago, offering the three-day program for the first time entirely in Spanish. Through the program, participants gained new aware- ness, skills and knowledge of how to engage others in the learning process.
