Top & Bottom, Right: Four stacked stone veneer pilasters mark the boundaries of the raised patio area. Atop two of these pilasters are Backyard Blaze fire bowls with fire glass; the other two have cast concrete planters with dipladenia flowers. The steps, one of them quartz and the others concrete, are lit with Lightcraft Outdoors step lights with Brilliance LED bulbs. The seating wall adjacent to the step is topped with quartz and faced with stucco. Three alternating crews of 3-4 workers completed the project in just ten weeks. Two and a half inches of class 2 base was used, compacted to 90 percent or more. The concrete is reinforced with number 3 steel rebar. The concrete is a Davis standard color with strength of 3500 psi which was poured at a minimum thickness of 4". The joints were hand tooled to a depth of 2/5 the thickness of the concrete – in this case, about 1.6". August 2015 37
